Recruit Profile: Karviar Shepherd

According to premierball.com, Gonzaga has offered class of 2013, Karviar Shepherd. Karviar is a 6-10 Forward/center out of Grace Prep in Arlington, TX. Rivals.com has him listed as the 44th best player in 2013. His recruitment includes most of the Big 12, SMU, Georgetown, Florida State, Louisville, Marquette, UCLA, USC and of course now the Zags. His recent showing at the Pangos All-American Camp has helped him become one of the most hotly pursued recruits in the nation. He has already taken an unofficial visits to UCLA, SMU, and LSU and has plans to head to Louisville and Kansas in the near future.

Jeff Borzello of CBS had this to say:
"I try not to compare myself to players in high school,” he said. “I compare myself to guys in the NBA.” Due to his skillset and ability to hit face-up jumpers or create matchup problems for opposing big men, Shepherd likens himself to San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan. While Duncan's longevity and career set the bar pretty high, plenty of colleges are looking to gain Shepherd's services."
According to Rebel-net.com:
"For a kid who had sat out his entire junior season, Karviar Shepherd looked pretty good playing for Urban DFW in April during the Adidas Exclusive VIP Run held in Las Vegas. Back on the West Coast for Pangos, the Arlington (Texas) Grace Prep big man looked even better. A lot better actually. Currently ranked No. 44 in the 2013 Rivals150, Shepherd played to and even above that lofty ranking all weekend. A skill guy with length and 6-foot-9 size, Shepherd has become a high-level mid-range jump shooter and was killing defenders all weekend from between 8-15 feet. He pivots off either foot, turns to either shoulder and always does an excellent job of squaring up to face his man.
His body will easily carry more weight and Shepherd's game is flourishing right now."

It appears the Zags are getting into Karviar's recruitment pretty late, and after several of the heavy hitters have. At this point its likely he will be a long shot to end up in Spokane, however we will keep an eye on him and let you know more about his recruitment. As always, GO ZAGS!
