Recruit Profile: Darin Johnson

So the recruiting news keeps rolling, we now have a 2013 recruit taking an unofficial visit to Spokane sometime around June 15-17. Darin Johnson is a 6-4 wing out of the Sacramento area. He is being recruited very heavily by Wazzu at this point, but perhaps the staff can parlay his initiative of visiting spokane into something more. According to Garrett Tucker of Future150.com:

"2013 combo guard Darin Johnson of Play Hard Play Smart and Franklin High School (CA) tells me he plans to visit Gonzaga and Washington State on June 15-17. Wazzu has already offered, but expect the Zags to follow suit in the near future, too. He also has USC and Pepperdine the week before, on June 6-7."
Johnson is also receiving interest from Virginia Tech, UNLV, San Francisco, Saint Mary's, Fresno State, and Santa Clara. Darin is extremely athletic, knows how to throw it down, seems to have the ability to create around the rim. Runs the floor like a gazelle, always seeming to want to push it. Shows improving shooting ability from outside.

In a recent interview he states that Virginia Tech is his favorite, and that he has already taken an unofficial visit to Wazzu before, so this will be his second time on campus, according to him:
"Washington state is amazing, great campus, and wonderful coaching staff. I would be glad to play in their system. They get buckets and play good D. I also have taken an unofficial to Washington State."
We feel he has the skill set that would be used effectively within the GU offense. At this point he does seem like a bit of a project in terms of his shooting, although by recent accounts from norcalpreps he seems to be steadily improving in that category. Expect him to garner more interest in the next few months.

Here is a clip of Darin in action:
