Yesterday morning, Drew Laing from gatorcountry.com reported that 2013 guard, Robert Hubbs has received and offer from the Zags. He is a 6-5 wing out of Newbern, TN. According to Rivals.com Robert is the 24th best player in the nation for the class of 2013. His recruitment currently includes most of the SEC, Memphis and Duke. His recruitment by Gonzaga might strike some as being odd considering his regional locale, however with recent news that Ramello Carter of Georgia has received interest from the staff it appears they are trying to develop a pipeline in the southeast.
Robert has been described as being an uber athlete, great hops and an exceptional nose for the ball around the rim. According to Scout.com:
"Scoring around the basket appears to Robert Hubbs' calling card. A 6-foot-4 wing prospect blessed with long arms and a solid frame, Hubbs uses his athleticism and touch around the basket to finish off plays at the rim. Hubbs isn’t afraid to mix it up inside. He’s always looking to score a rebound and will even take the opposition to the post. Going forward areas for improvement are his ball handling and jump shot."Robert certainly seems like he fits what the staff is trying to secure for 2013 and beyond. The biggest question to us is whether his recruitment out of the southeast is feasible for the staff at this time. We will keep you posted as we learn more about Robert's recruitment. As always, GO ZAGS!
