Rumored: Gerard Coleman on campus

At this hour we are hearing rumors that the mystery player who has been visiting campus this weekend with his family is none other than Gerard Coleman, a transfer from Providence College. According to Rivals.com, Gerard was the #58 prospect in the nation for the class of 2010.

Gerard is a 6-4 wing out of Tilton School in Boston, MA. He is leaving Providence due to personal reasons according to the following Friars press release:
April 4, 2012

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Ed Cooley announced today that student-athlete Gerard Coleman (Boston, Mass.) will transfer at the end of the semester due to personal reasons.
"Gerard has decided to leave Providence College due to personal reasons," Head Coach Ed Cooley said. "I wish him all the best. I appreciate his hard work and dedication during his two years at Providence College."
Coleman, a sophomore, played in 30 games in 2011-12 and averaged 13.2 points and 5.0 rebounds.
Its likely that he is transferring due to differences with coach Ed Cooley. Gerard was recruited by Keno Davis' staff and he did his best to mesh with Ed Cooley, but it was a matter of time before things soured and he needed to find a system that suited his style of play.

By all accounts Gerard is a great scorer, Very smooth driving to the rim, has a great mid range game. We will get more information soon regarding Gerards game. Friarbasketball.com put up an interesting synopsis of Providence Colleges season, including lots of info on Gerards contributions to the team, click here to check it out. Here is a highlight clip of Gerard:

Folks this is just a rumor right now, we will let you know once we get official confirmation about this.

Ugghh..GU staff we need to sign this dude on the dotted line like NOW!

I'm somewhat confused by this. He is smaller, and lighter than Landry.

We have Dranginis coming off his redshirt. Where is he supposed to play? I can't really see him coming into a brand new syestem and beating out Landry or Dranginis.

Oh well, maybe he is roster filler. We do need a full team and leaving scholarships open doe's not fill the roster. We may need a guy like this in case of foul trouble, injury.

Well, we'll see. He does have D1 experience. Still, just being honest I'm a little disapointed in this potential recruit.

He is a transfer and wont be eligible until next year...He also averaged over 13 points a game in the big east...not too shabby, he would be more than capable of coming and holding the starting spot on the wing for the next 2 years...

Well, now that you put it that way. I was forgetting that Landry will be gone next season.

I thought Dranginis was going to be the guy. He redshirted so he can sit behind Gerard? Ahhh recruiting, and musical chairs.

The last "get" by GU came out of nowhere. Not Karnowski, the other one. This one, if he commits will be almost as surprising.

How do you know Dranginis is going to be any good? Get this guy signed!!!!!!!!!

From all reports leaking out of campus Draino is supposed to be very good. If this guy comes in will we have more disgruntled players transfering?

Not very brilliant to send that kind of signal to future potential recruits. Kids talk, word spreads. Don't go to GU, they will tell you one thing yet do another? You'll end up riding pine and getting recruited over? THAT is my only concern.

Look, if kids these days were not all about themselves and instant gratification I would be all for putting the best team on the floor, period. But they are not. Maybe it's better to not make recruiting mistakes in the first place and develope your players.

Not trying to argue with you, just thinking out loud.

I disagree, building the team to a higher level of talent is always the imperative. We will never challenge for a final four if we dont get better as a team.

That being said, i have still to confirm that Coleman was on campus, i heard from 2 separate sources that he was but no confirmation has come. I've also heard from a source that he was definitely not on campus...This is how rumors go, either way the staff has shown interest in Coleman. We will see in the coming days what all is true, May 16 is looming on the calendar...

If they did get him then Dranginis would be a super backup for the 1,2 and 3. But we will have to wait and see.

Do we really think we should just go with 9 scholarship players next season just to keep everyone happy?

Didn't I say this? "We do need a full team and leaving scholarships open doe's not fill the roster"? Yes, I did.

So, your comment is confusing.
