Recruit Profile: Kendall Small

How often do you hear of a recruit who makes it known how much he loves a school? Usually its the coaches out there hustling, drooling all over these kids like they are a prime delmonico steak. Kendall Small is the exception to the rule. His father recently made it known that not only does Kendall have Gonzaga on his list, He is a full blown fan:
"He's a Gonzaga fan," his father said. "He wants to go to Gonzaga. He just likes Mark Few's offense and the guards that come out of there are really good."

Kendall is currently a freshman (Class of 2015) at Ocean View High in Huntington Beach, CA. Hes 5-11 (still has plenty of time to add to grow) and plays the point. While he has no offers at this time, according to Scout.com he has received interest from schools like Arizona, USC, Arizona St., Wazzu, and now the Zags. A matter of fact, from most accounts GU's staff really didn't have contact with Kendall until he made it known that he grew up a fan of the school.

While not much has been written about Kendall so far, some services are starting to key in on him as a potentially high ranking prospect from the class of 2015. ESPN had this to say about him:
"Small is a solid looking point guard with an advanced feel for the game as well as a terrific skill set. He is a pass-first lead guard who can thread the needle with an interior pass or throw the skip pass while attacking the zone. Despite his youth he runs the pick and roll effectively and usually makes good decisions. He changes speeds very well and his pull-up game is impressive to boot...Small has a decent frame, but he'll have to pay attention to his weight because he possesses the body-type that may get too thick-thus losing his quickness and speed. His speeds is solid, but he is not a burner and will need to continue to learn how to changes speeds to keep defenders off balance. He needs to continue to learn how to manage a game and continue to work on his pull-up game and consistency on his jump shot. Small is one of many outstanding point guard prospects in the class of 2015. If he continues to develop his overall game management, keep his body in great shape, and become a knock-down shooter, he will be a priority for Division I coaches."
Its exciting to see such a talented young player express interest in the program. It definitely speaks to the national footprint the Zags has been able to carve out over the last 15 years. Kids like this wont be considered a rarity in the future, we are beginning to see all the hard work pay off as kids all over the country begin to view Gonzaga as a major program. Expect Donny Daniels to work his California magic and try to tie up a verbal commitment as early as possible. We will keep you posted as we learn more about Kendalls recruitment. As always, GO ZAGS!

Here are a couple clips of Kendall (He wears #11 in the first Clip):

Nice to get the inside track with potential future recruits who want to come to GU, instead of having to convince them that it is in their best interest to do so.

He's young, and it's a long way off but who knows, maybe he turns out to be amazing, and still wants to be a Zag!

By all accounts Kendal is the real deal, already top 150 for his class and potentially top 50 once real rankings are released for 2015 kids. 5'11" PG as a freshman is great size, as he still has many years to grow. Kid is already very good, and three more years of HS/AAU ball he can only get better.

Huge news for GU as a kid of this caliber is interested early on, it says a lot about how Gonzaga has kept up with its tradition of 'Point Guard U' over the years. If this kid lives up to his potential, he very well could be GU's next great PG. I'm very excited about his potential.
