Game Preview: Southern Utah

2011-12 Record: 14-17 (8-10 in Summit League)

Southern Utah is making the move to the Big Sky this year along with North Dakota. They are by no means a powerhouse on the basketball court. Honestly my only real knowledge of the school is through a former teammate who spent some time there in the mid 2000s (Nick Livi out of Sammamish/Eastlake HS in Bellevue, WA). The expectation should be similar to the Zags first game against NNU, basically the starters will be relaxing on the bench by the first few minutes of the 2nd half.

They are led by ultra young coach Nick Robinson, formerly a player at Stanford and an assistant under his old coach Trent Johnson at LSU. Their roster consists of a lot of young inexperienced players with the lone bright spots coming at the wing. Jackson Stevenett is the senior leader and leading scorer from last year at 14.1 points per. He also manages to get his fair share of boards at around 5.7 per game. Another returning Senior is Damon Heuir out of Australia who managed 10.8 Points, and 3.1 Assists/Boards per game last year. Both Damon and Jackson could pose some matchup problems on the wing, although im sure it wont be much of an issue with the length and athleticism of this Zag team.

All in all, expect and easy game that is nothing more than a tune up for the coming battle with West Virginia. By the way we will be Live Tweeting the game @zagaholic, as always, GO ZAGS!
