Class of 2013 Recruiting Update

Who will be donning a Zag jersey out of the class of 2013? So far the staff has received committments from a couple of relative unknowns in Ryan Edwards and Luke Meikle. There is also the commitment of Gerard Coleman who will not be eligible to suit up until 2013. We know these players will need time to develop in the Zags system and most likely will not get loads of playing time up front. So who else is the staff concentrating on for 2013?

A person who has had a chance to visit Spokane and seems to be favoring the Zags is Darin Johnson out of Sacramento, CA. According to a recent interview with Rivals.com, Darin stated:
"Gonzaga, Washington State, USC, Oregon State and UTEP are coming the hardest, Head coaches Few, Robinson, Bone and O'Neil are making a strong impression on me."
TheRecruitScoop.com had this to say:
"As Gonzaga coach Mark Few is making a strong impression on Darin Johnson, it would be no surprise if the bouncy guard took his talents to the mid-major powerhouse in the fall of 2013."
Right now it appears Coach Few has been able to keep the Zags fresh in Darin's mind and we have a chance to walk away with a very special player. His recruitment has still be relatively slow due to a potential weakness in his jumpshot, but we here at Zagaholic think he would be an excellent addition to the team and a potentially solid wing down the road.

Someone who has been rumored to be receiving a lot of interest by the staff recently is Robert Hubbs. You may remember we did a recruit profile on Robert awhile back. Coach Few and Lloyd were recently at the Fab 48 keeping an eye on Robert as he competed with his AAU squad, M33M Elite. Robert, who hails from Newbern, TN, has received offers or interest from most of the SEC and he would appear to be a longshot to end up in Spokane, but the staff is obviously very interested in him.

We've heard whispers linking the Zags to Goodluck Okonoboh out of Tilton, MA. But the reality of it is the only real linkage between the two parties is an offer by the Zags and a loose affiliation in that Gerard Coleman went to Tilton as well. While it would great to have Goodluck as a bulldog, i think the reality of this situation is that he will likely stay out east. A lot of people close to him have hinted at Syracuse as a possible destination, its likely that Pittsburgh and Providence are also close to the top of his list as well.

What we do know is the staff will continue to pound the pavement and try to bring in some more talent for next year, there are still a couple scholarships available for the class of 2013. We will keep you posted as we learn more. As always, GO ZAGS!

Disapponted. We are in a pretty good place with Okonoboh, and Hubbs is only linked to GU with an offer. And where is Jordan Mathews? He's a priority right now and there is no mention of him on this site when guys like Elliot Pitts (Cut his list, GU not on it), Jadon Cohee and Tremaine Isabelle (Barely being recruited, if at all) are being covered heavily. This site was great for a while but now the info has become scarce and inaccurate. I'm really unimpressed.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and until any player signs on the dotted line what you have just stated is just that, opinion. Until i see someone like Goodluck state that GU is his favorite i cannot in good conscience say that we are. As far as Jordan Matthews is concerned, we are working on a piece for him, it will be posted soon.

Im sorry when was the last time we mentioned Elliot Pitts? Jadon Cohee (class of 2014 btw)? or Tremaine Isabelle (also class of 2014)? Perhaps your opinion is a bit skewed, there are other outlets for Zag information, you are welcome to utilize those outlets, we report what we have access to, just as other outlets report what they have access to. Thank you for your time and criticism. Have a Great day!

Im not trying to be an ass or anything Im just saying that from what I've seen this article doesn't seem to be spot on. I challenge the Hubbs thing because other than that offer a few months ago I have barely heard any link between him and Gonzaga. The thing about Goodluck Okonoboh only being tied to Gonzaga with an offer I don't think is true. I never said that we were the clear favorite but there is amiddle ground between favorite and not being considered. Multiple sources stated that GU was watching him in July and every interview I've seen with him he lists GU, including this one from May 31st: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EjcfsKwNzU
The thing about not covering Jordan Mathews and covering other guys more is just something I've noticed. The recruiting board on here has 3 recruits for 2013: Luke Meikle, DJ Fenner and Robert Hubbs. Pitts was on there like a day ago but just got taken off. Ryan Edwards isn't even on there and neither is Darin Johnson. Then you look at 2014 with Jadon Cohee and I wonder why a guy who isn't even technically a recruit has a whole article on him when Jordan Mathews, the priority in 2013, has barely been mentioned on this site. A quote from the Cohee article, " At this point no one has even linked the Zags coaching staff to him." I'm just confused how this site runs if stuff like this is going on. I'm sorry for being kind of a jerk just my opinions.

I apologize about our recruiting board, its a work in progress, its not 100% updated and honestly i havent had time. This site is a hobby for me, its not a job. I will update it when i get the chance to do so.

I have spoken with Jadon Cohees coach, Pasha Bains on a couple of occasions and he has stated to me that Jadon has received interest from the staff. Jadon is young and just starting to come into his own on, its hard for canadian guys to get the recognition that US guys do unless they cross the border like Xavier Rathan-Mayes did or Anthony Bennett.

The only reason i have not yet posted on Jordan Matthews is because i had someone who claimed they were going to do a write up on him and they disappeared on me. Like i said, i am in progress on putting a write up together.

The Hubbs info is straight from ESPN.com and was reported via GUboards.com also, im not the only guy who has reported the staff was at the Fab 48 watching him play.

Show me an article where Goodluck mentioned GU as even being in his top 3 and i will admit i missed it, because i cant find one...I have found an article where someone mentioned his family saying Syracuse is his favorite school. Granted thats not him, but it seems logical considering he is an east coast recruit. If Goodluck ends up in Spokane then id be ecstatic, until then lets just say im not holding my breath.

Again, you are entitled to your opinion, but we do not report crap info on this site, i only pass it on if it has been stated elsewhere first or if i get it first hand from someone on the inside or the recruit himself. Take it for what it is, its not a definitive list of recruits, its a quick update on the class of 2013.
