We will continue at the current level of play we are at now, but will have made a final four in the ncaa tourney while pangos and bell are still with Gonzaga.
I think this year will be our Final Four year - all hinging upon Harris having a Freshman type year. With Gary, Kevin, Sam, Kelly, Guy and Przemek we are set to make a deep run this year, and obliterate St. Mary’s. (We don’t want them getting too comfortable in their new role as WCC Champions)
What does this mean for the future and next 10 years? I believe we will continue to dominate the conference and start our streak again. For the near future, our team will be very balanced with our current roster and hopefully a top tier recruit or two. We will continue to be a shoo-in for the NCAA tournament every year and most years make it past the first weekend.
I truly believe we are trending upwards, however, we are still a mid-major way out west and drawing top recruits consistently will be difficult to put us in the same consideration as Kentucky, Duke and UNC. Although Butler has a fairly good recruiting class coming in this year, their two Championship appearances did not vault them into the view of the best of the best recruits. We will have the same difficulty and therefore will probably not have several championships to our name, but hopefully at least one in the next 10 years.
I am confident, that within the next 10 years we will hear an announcer exclaim “And the original Cinderella team has finally done it! The Gonzaga Bulldogs are the 20--/20-- NCAA Basketball Champions!
In the next 10 years, I see the zags making at least one FF. I see 2 or 3 Elite 8's. We are too big of a household name to NOT start/continue landing some BIG time recruits. 10 years ago, I'm not so sure we could have snatched a guy like Karno from Duke and company.
And actually, I think one of our Final Fours is MUCH, MUCH closer than many people think! :-)
