While playing in the 2011 Faith 7 Oklahoma All-Star game, Ryan Spangler was asked why he wanted to go to school across the country in Spokane, WA. He responded, “I know it’s far off, but I like winning and they’re always in the NCAA Tournament, I would rather go somewhere far and win rather than stay somewhere close and lose.”
Spangler is not leaving the OK State without having left a mark, His senior season was spent racking up averages of 29.2 points, 17.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. He also Shot 72 percent from the field, 70 percent from the charity stripe. He currently holds the state record for rebounds, and the school record for scoring, rebounds, and blocked shots. Spangler left Oklahoma as the Basketball Coaches Association POY, the Gatorade POY, and a Parade All-American. He said he plans to major in Business at Gonzaga.
A Lucky freshman, Spangler will get a chance to travel home this season when the Zags face the OK State Cowboys in Stillwater. Good Luck Ryan!
