What's done is done. I thought he might have made many more millions as a lottery pick next year but...
Hopefully, he gets drafted in the guaranteed money. It would really suck if he ended up slipping to say, 18-24ish.
He only showed the level of play for one year at GU. Scouts might be a bit leery for that reason, as well as his lack of vertical, quickness, athleticism, and perceived "softness."
I have my doubts about him doing well in the NBA, but then again, I thought Morrison was going to light it up, lol.
He does not play above the rim. How many bigs in the NBA cannot?
Sacre comes to mind. He is a better defender but has no offense, vertical, is slow laterally, ect. but he is relegated to playing ping pong to the D league and back with the Lakers, or cheerleading.
He had used up his college eligibility and had to leave. Kelly though....ahhhhh, one more year.
He had a good year but no idea how he was a 1st team all american, or what advice he got to think he can succeed in NBA without getting way better with his feet, and improving his lateral quickness.
To bad too...since he could have come back, work through those issues as a amateur...now as a "pro" it is perform or you are out.
Kelly's decision should not be second guessed. This year's draft is going to be much weaker than next year. Most have Kelly going in the middle of the first round. Gee, just a million $$$$!
Next year he could easily project to the second round (no guaranteed money) or perhaps not even selected in the draft.
Do they sell insurance to compensate you for not being selected in the first round?
He's got his degree. He spent 4 years here. He was nothing but a team player in every department. He did all he could do for the program for four years. He didn't owe GU anything more.
How many of you would turn down a million bucks for a year's work if it involved giving up your present position -- forever; and living in a different city for a year?
I didn't think so.
Nothing wrong with wishing Kelly played that 5th year. The other comments are definitely . . . poor form and not becoming of the classy folks that support GU basketball.
Now that the decision is made, support Kelly, just like you supported him last year. He deserves nothing less.
The other comments are definitely . . . poor form and not becoming of the classy folks that support GU basketball. * your opinion and just that but thanks again for trying to insist your line of thought is the moral high ground.
But since you think he made the right decision and I think he did not, you are right and have class and I am wrong and do not...that it?
said it before and will say it again, you are a self righteous jack-wagon quid. As far as I am concerned your "miss manners" crap is classless.
Quid, Kelly has my support. I simply feel he might have done better waiting another year. And, where is it written that one cannot discuss a player's decision to enter the draft or not? Nowhere. I thought blogs were for open discussion....I think it's fair game.
Who ever said he owed us anything? I never said anything remotely like that.
I also don't see ANY centers that will be drafted ahead of him next year. Not one. If he is the real deal and can prove his worthiness he could make MANY millions by doing so, instead of settling for one.
Yeah, a million bucks would be sweet, but if a mil is nice isn't 5 or 6 better? You may not be a betting man but I would take that bet.

Sorry to see you go Kelly
but
At this point in time, I think you made the right decision.

And, the million and change he will most likely make will probably be all he will ever see in the NBA.
Whereas if he had stayed and proved his All-American season was no fluke, improved his game, he could have been a lottery pick.
Now we're talking many millions, the NBA pension, guaranteed contract, ect.
What about injury? Take out some insurance. Right Matt?
But KO is pretty smart and he looked at all the angles, so he decided to roll the dice this way...hope for the best.
As a side note....I'd like to see KO vs. Sacre in this summer's scrims....that would give me a much better idea of how he'll stack up in the NBA.
Brother!!!

don't you have a softball game to go coach?

Matt, I didn't particularly enjoy the comment from Quid about "class" and it was a little below the belt imo, but it's a blog.....no big deal.
So we disagree on KO's decision. It's not like I hope he does poorly so I can be right. I truly wish him the best.
Doing well has got to be good for GU, KO, & fans alike.
