Saint Mary's hit with 4 year Probation

The NCAA has spoken and it appears that Randy Bennett and Saint Mary's will be hit with a 4 year probation and major recruiting punishments to include:
"A report by the NCAA Committee on Infractions released Friday found that Gaels coach Randy Bennett "acted unethically in his recruitment of international prospects" and "failed to promote an atmosphere for compliance." Bennett will not be allowed to recruit off campus and will serve a five-game suspension next season.
Saint Mary's will still be allowed to participate in the West Coast Conference tournament and the NCAA tournament but can't play in preseason or in-season tournaments. The men's basketball program also will have a reduction in scholarships from 13 to 11 for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons and an elimination of all foreign tours until the start of the 2017-18 season."
While I do not necessarily want to see Saint Mary's get into trouble, I cant say I feel bad for them. Coach Bennett knew what he was doing and definitely participated in some sleazy recruiting tactics. This is a bit more than your average slap on the hand and will deal a huge blow to our primary competition in the West Coast Conference. Full Article Here.

You knew something bad was coming....the silence was deafening.

Wow, I am disappointed in Coach Bennett.

This sucks...Having St. Mary's doing so well enhanced the league in so many ways.

I fear with Delly leaving and now this, SMC will fall back into obscurity.

We need a rivalry, and it was going so well...

rivals.com has them with 2 of the top 150 recruits this year, more than can be said about us, so i think they'll be ok
