Grading WCC non-conference schedules

Great article by Zach Farmer with the examiner taking a close look at the WCC non-conference schedules. The trick to a great schedule is finding the balance between easy games and tough matchups.

Gonzaga gets an A, and at the opposite spectrum our rival St Mary's is graded with a D. For their sake, they better hope the NCAA selection committee grades on a curve!

Receiving an “A” for our schedule is nothing new. Playing great opponents such as Baylor, Illinois and Kansas State at home is a coup that all teams strive for. Winning these games with the added bonus of home field advantage is even better. However, I think we have too many home games and our seeding may be affected by the lack of quality neutral and away games.

I did a blow by blow evaluating your article but . . . have yet to learn all the in's and outs here. The whole thing got deleted.

Not typing that up again.

Suffice to say, you were more than a little harsh on everyone save St. Marys.

You noted that one needs to consider a number of factors in scheduling and then pretty much ignored those factors when doing your evaluation.

If one considers issues such as present talent on the team, state of the program, ability to schedule quality opponents, etc. I think most WCC teams rate at least a B.
