Recruit Profile: Casey Benson

According to Josh Gershon of Scout.com, 2014 PG Casey Benson will be visiting Gonzaga this weekend. He has already received an offer from the Zags and is likely to be coming to Spokane to experience Hoopfest as well. Casey has also received offers from Boston College, Arizona St., Boise St., USC, Colorado, and Saint Mary's. At 6-3, and blessed with a knack for finding his teammates, most consider him to be not only the best point guard, but the best overall prospect out of Arizona for the class of 2014.

MaxPreps.com recently put Casey on their All-American team (3rd team) for 2014.  He was also named to 2nd team All-State in Arizona where he helped lead his Corona Del Sol High School boys basketball team to this year's 2012 Division-I State Championship at a 32-1 record. He averaged 15 Points, 4 Boards, and 4 Assists on the season. Caseys brother, TJ Benson was a player at Weber St. and is currently an assistant with Boise St.

Casey plays like a man amongst boys. Most consider him to be a pass first point which is becoming more and more rare these days. His smarts on the court are clearly evident as he always seems to be several steps ahead of his opponent. He has an adept understanding of his teams offensive sets and is able to create opportunities for his teammates when in the halfcourt. He is renowned for his ambidexterity but plays predominately off the left hand. Often times he is able to break his opponent down off the dribble and slash to the basket. He seems to be a plus defender who can create turnovers in the open court, however he could use some work on man sets. He has exhibited great mid to long range shooting and with continued work could become an excellent shooter on the next level. One of the best things about Casey is his leadership, he seems to step it up when the chips are down and truly personifies the term "Floor General".

Heading into his junior season, Casey still has a lot of time to make up his mind. After a very strong Pangos All-American camp, as well as an MVP in the 16U division of the Double Pump Hoop Fest, his recruitment has really picked up. According to Rivals.com, he has received interest from the likes of Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Virginia, and California. Its a good sign that the Zags have been able to secure a visit this early on in his recruitment, and it could not come at a better time. Casey will witness shoot arounds with most of the current and many former players. If ever there was a time to sell a recruit on the Zags, it would be this weekend. Hopefully the staff will be able to capitalize on the tournament and secure an early commitment from Casey in the coming months. We will keep you posted as we learn more about Casey's recruitment. As always, GO ZAGS!

Definately and interesting prospect. Dare I say this, but his game kinda reminds me of Dellavedova's. Obviously not a bad thing cause he is a great player, but well thats all I will say about that, haha.

I do find it interesting that he shoots both left and right handed. Seems when he is in the lane shooting his runners its with his right hand, and when shooting the 3 he uses his left hand.

Good size as well, and with 2 years of highschool left he definately has room to grow. Lets hope we can have a good visit with him this weekend and be on the top of his list.

This kid looks like the real deal...a little bit of Bouldin with the change of pace dribble, a little bit of Dickau with the long shots and floaters, a little bit of Morrison with the mid range...definitely is Zag Guard Material, and it also helps that he's got the hair for it

Nice prospect. It is wild that he can go with either hand like that. No one will be able to say he is a Sam Dower in that regard.

He is not afraid to take it strong to the hole, looks a bit awkward, but so did Morrison and he did ok,lol.

Delly never passed any eye test either but he gets it done too.

Sights list him anywhere from 6'0 to 6'3. Hopefully he's a legit 6'3 and still growing...it would be nice to get some size in the back court.

I love this kid's game. I have been keeping an eye out for vid's on him for a few months now.

His game is very similar to Delly and he seems to play with a good understanding of the game and scores very well off the dribble.

Def would love to see him come to GU.
